Trends with Benefits #49: Social Leverage with Howard Lindzon

March 23, 2021

Listen Time 30:28 MIN

In this episode, I welcomed back Howard Lindzon with the intention of chatting about Stocktwits and the rise of the individual investor, but I got much more.

One of the major stories of 2021 is the rise of individual investors. With this in mind I wanted to speak with Howard Lindzon, co-founder of Stocktwits, about his take of this phenomenon. It became apparent that Stocktwits is emblematic of a larger idea, a future state of interaction and leverage.

Social Leverage

Our discussion was fluid, veering from Stocktwits to future tech in general, but the idea of social leverage is really what framed our discussion. Social Leverage happens to be the name of his venture fund and it makes total sense now after speaking with him. There's just too much happening to be up on it all. So whether your goal is to invest in the hot new trend, start a business or get meaningful insights on stocks you're interested in, leveraging the power of one’s social network is society's future state.

Among the topics we covered, social vs. financial leverage, Stocktwits, when it's ok to pay a fee, and his thoughts on trends he sees: small is the new big and how financial advisors are going to bridge the gap between what they offer clients and what's available to their clients in a decentralized world.
