Trends with Benefits #60: Green Bonds with Sean Kidney

August 04, 2021

Listen Time 39:44 MIN

In this episode, I chat with Sean Kidney, CEO of the Climate Bonds Initiative ("CBI"), an international NGO working to mobilize global capital for climate action. Through Sean's work with the investment and banking community across the world, CBI is helping to making it easier for issuers and investors to participate in the much needed area of sustainable finance.

Climate awareness continues to be a major theme in the news and markets, especially as catastrophic events like massive flooding in Germany and wildfires in the U.S.' west coast break headlines. Climate change has generally been considered to be the root of these events. Whether you buy into that or not, one trend I've definitely noticed in my daily work life is that there is more climate awareness and concern on the minds of investors, from individuals to institutions. Green bonds are receiving more and more attention. I discuss with Sean the basics of green bonds, how they compare with traditional bonds, the types of issuers and what implications the Biden Administration could have on green bond investors and the outlook for sustainable finance.
