VanEck Space & Defence Event
Exploring the Future of Space and Defence at the Science Museum

Join VanEck for a morning discussion on the evolving space and defence sectors, and what they may mean for governments, companies and long term investors.

For many investors, space remains one of the most exciting, but also least understood, long term themes. The ambition is clear, from satellites and launch systems to exploration, communications and national security. The harder question is where the real economic value sits, how quickly it can be realised, and which parts of the industry may become commercially durable.

Defence is facing a similar moment of change. Geopolitical uncertainty has pushed security back to the top of the political agenda, but the nature of defence is also shifting. Future capability is increasingly shaped by data, connectivity, autonomy, cyber resilience and space based infrastructure, not just traditional platforms and hardware.

This event will look beyond the headlines to explore how the space and defence sectors are developing, why they matter, and where long term commercial and investment opportunities may emerge, opening with a keynote from Libby Jackson, followed by a fireside chat style panel with Robert Grant and Lewis Feilder.

Key Topics

This event will explore four key questions shaping the future of space and defence:

1. Is space becoming the critical infrastructure behind modern economies and national security?
Space is no longer only about exploration. Satellites now support communications, navigation, weather forecasting, earth observation, financial systems, logistics, border security and defence capabilities.

2. Can the commercial space economy move from ambition to sustainable financial return?
As launch costs fall and commercial activity expands, the question is no longer simply whether space travel is worth it, but what countries, companies and investors can gain by mastering access to space.

3. Is defence spending entering a new long term cycle, or is this simply a short term response to today’s geopolitical tensions?
Geopolitical tensions have pushed defence spending higher, but the key question is whether this is a short term response or a long term structural shift.

4. How is the definition of defence changing as technology, space and national security become increasingly intertwined?
Defence is evolving beyond traditional hardware. Future capability increasingly depends on data, cyber, intelligence, surveillance, autonomous systems, advanced communications and space based infrastructure.
